Frustration from Hawthorn

Friday, November 26th, 2004

It’s been a while (since Sunday, in fact) since I’ve put this down on paper, or whatever. You get the point.

I haven’t really been doing much since then, apart from rehersals for my VCE Assembly which was on Wednesday and turned out alright. Since then I’ve been trying to relax as much as I can, but I haven’t really been able to.

When our Leavers Jumpers came, that I organised, it came to be that the company that made them ‘forgot’ to heat-press ‘04′ in big numbers on the back, leaving the jumper looking rather empty. So after speaking to most people I’ve finally got a few jumpers (~ 16 out of 52) that a courier is picking up today “from 8am”. From 8am?! I didn’t get home until almost 2am last night, and I have to wake up at 8am?! What?!

I hate couriers. Chances are he won’t turn up until 11am anyway, but just in case I woke up, and I’m sitting writing this bored shitless listening to a really bad song (Walk On The Water — Crerdence Clearwater Revival) that’s giving me a headache.

The courier better come soon so I can have a bit of a shloof to revive me for Surfer’s tomorrow! Yeah! I think I need some caffeine to wake me up…

On another note, my good friend Deb is going overseas today to Switzerland, France, Israel, Hong Kong, and I think somewhere else as well, but I wasn’t really listening. So if you’re reading this, Deb, have an incredibly safe trip and an even more incredibly awesome time!

Most of you know that I’m part of the geeky-cult-like-website Whirlpool — the Australian Broadband News site.

I’m a reporter there, trying to get some experience as I look towards maybe a career in IT journalism. So far I’m really enjoying it, but having received more than 7,000 e-mails in the last two months alone, I don’t think WebCentral’s POP server likes me very much. :)

So, anyway, we’ve been preparing the Whirlpool survey for the last few weeks, and on Tuesday morning it was launched. The survey has since then been really popular. I’m not going to say how many people have completed the survey so far, but it’s a lot.

So basically, if you have broadband, ADSL or Cable, fill in the Whirlpool survey. Last year over 10,000 participants filled in the survey, and many ‘mainstream’ news sources like AustralianIT picked up the news of the results. It was very successful for everyone.

Have your say! Let your voice be heard!

(Also, if you want to see all of the articles I’ve written for Whirlpool so far, just check out this page.)

It’s over!

Everything I’ve ever known has come to an end — I’ve finished school, and exams, forever. Forever!

My last exam finished yesterday, International Studies, and it was a great exam, so I left on a high which was awesome. Then went out yesterday evening played some golf (only played about five holes though, I was playing really shitty), watched Dave somehow lose six golf balls on six holes; a very, very funny sight indeed. Then went to Acland Street for dinner, played some touch Rugby which was good fun, played some poker back at Dave’s and then watched the most amazing episode of The West Wing — the one that they did at the beginning of the third series after 9/11. Amazing episode. Amazing program.

Now to think about Shnat; I’m having some problems getting accepted. I’ve got health insurance, but Habo are really screwing around. They’re taking forever. Hopefully that will be resolved relatively soon; the sooner the better.

Until next time…

I’ve been thinking…

Well, to be honest, I don’t really like the current design of my site. It’s completely stolen from the winner of Alex King’s Wordpress style competition, so it’s unoriginal. It’s also not completely me. It just doesn’t fit right that my websites have always been mine from start to finish.

I don’t mind using the Wordpress backend, because it’s the best and I would never be able to replicate anything nearly as good with my shoddy PHP skills, so what’s the point in trying? But my sites have always been designed from scratch. This one clearly isn’t.

So that’s my next project, to redesign the site (again) in the mould of Alex King’s, who has become somewhat of a blogging hero of mine. I want my site to be all pretty and integrated like his, with my blog, my music, my photo gallery, my resume, and contact form ability types. Also maybe a biography, although I guess that could just be a blog entry. In fact, yeah, a blog entry.

I’m going to undertake that project over the next few weeks after I finish exams (tomorrow!) and finish partying, which won’t be until around Thursday me thinks. But I also don’t want to do this while I’m at my Dad’s place, I just want to relax and chill then.

I guess I’ll just see what happens, but I’ve got a design (or two) in mind, so I’ll see which comes a reality. Any suggestions, just post a comment.

(On that note of comments: none of the spam suggestions I’ve implemented have worked at all, so I’m back to approving all the comments. Post a comment on this blog if you have any bright ideas. God knows they’re brighter than mine.)

My last word…

I promise this will be the last you will hear about Arafat’s death. I promise. But this cartoon from Dana Summers of The Orlando Sentinel really sums everything I’ve been saying up:
