Yom Ha’atzmaut Where They Do It Best
Thursday, May 12th, 2005Lots of fun. Yeah, that’s what my Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) is all about, and it didn’t let me down.
After an early dinner (thank God!) we watched the ‘change-over’ at Har Herzl from Yom Hazikaron to Yom Ha’atzmaut, which was nice — especially because we had one of the madrichim translating.
Then off to Tel Aviv where I had many a plan to dance the night away and chill in this bar on Rechov Nachalat Binyamin, but it didn’t happen. They dropped us off at Kikar Rabin and the party was so good! Amazing! Had an absolute ball there. There was one particular band that played some Israeli classics, but in a rock style which was just amazing to listen to and dance to. Had an absolute ball there. (Especially because there is a great kosher Burger place right next to KR, called Magic Burger, where you get an AMAZING burger for 15 shekels. *drools* And McDonald’s right next to that where you get an Apple Pie and Soft Serve for 8 shekels which serves as a great desert.)
Then just relaxed to the shitty (yet somehow extremely popular) Israeli band Subliminal, which is Israeli hip-hop. The words are indifferent to me, being in another language, but the music style is just so bad. My oh my do I hate hip-hop. Just like Hadag Nachash, although I’m starting to get into them. (Both of those bands are quite kind of similar in their music style, their lyrics are miles apart: Hadag is very left-wing, while Subliminal is quite right-wing. Don’t make a difference to me though.)
And by then, it was already getting close to 2am, when we’d get a free bus home. Oh well. The party ends there.
