Liberation

I feel liberated on two counts, that I thought I would share:

  1. I’ve adjusted the links you see above using script.aculo.us scripts — now, instead of being taken directly to the ‘about me’ or ‘contact me’ pages, using a little bit of AJAXy goodness, a whole new page doesn’t need to load. It was my first piece of AJAX, and I’m impressed.
  2. The second is just another tribute to my new Mac. It’s beautiful. It does everything quicker. I’m liberated from PCs. The only reason I now use my PC is to grab TV and watch it. If I was truly eager I would grab on the PC and watch on my Mac, but it’s too much effort.

And that’s it.

Shana tova to everyone. Hopefully the coming year will be as fruitful as ever, and as happy as ever.

I scored INXS tickets!

Friday, September 15th, 2006

I just scored some amazingly cheap tickets to see INXS on Tuesday night, and boy, am I excited! When INXS first announced their tour I thought it would be amazing to see them, but I couldn’t justify the money. Spending $90 on tickets seemed a bit silly considering I already spent $99 to see U2 in November.

But a few weeks ago I thought, “I’ll check out eBay, and see what they’ve got”. And lo and behold, after bidding on two tickets, losing, but then being told that I had a second chance because the winner didn’t want the tickets, I’ve now got two $25 tickets to see INXS! Sure, the seats are bad, but who cares? It’s INXS baby!

“This is the ride. And this is the show.”

Thanks for the memories, ‘Frankie’

Justin ‘Frankie’ Peckett announced his retirement from footy today. He was outstanding player and he gave amazing service to the St Kilda Football Club. I grew up watching Peckett at his best, and I even remember when he used to wear the number 29 on his back.

Even though he’s become a little slower over the last few years, from what I understand his leadership to the younger players has been fantastic. And on the field he’s filled some tough roles this year, particularly becoming a tagging player after settling into a position in the back pocket during his prime.

Frankie: I salute you!

An interesting, Saint-esque, move

As always St Kilda has a way of finding itself in the news, and finding itself in controversy. This week it came with the ‘mutual’ parting ways of the club with coach Grant Thomas.

There have always been rumblings. There has always been bitterness from the media and from opposition supporters, but for the most (silent) part, within St Kilda ranks there has always been admiration and support.

From a man that has brought so many different new things to football (think: rotating captaincies, overseas end-of-year trips, dual-role of coach and football manager, among so many other things) it was weird to see him go. Especially this way. We’ve been in the finals for the last three years; sure, we didn’t have as strong of a performance as you would have expected (or even demanded), but it wasn’t like we were disgraced.

At the press conference everyone kept saying ‘mutual decision’, but it quickly became clear that he was pushed. The question is, as always with St Kilda, where to from here?

Obviously a new coach, but who? Darren Cresswell would be top of the list, you’d think, but with recent allegations of sexual harrasement, it might be too big of a risk, even for St Kilda. John Longmire would be there, and I’ve even heard Ken Sheldon’s name being thrown around. It’ll certainly make for the most interesting post-season break in a while.

Like every St Kilda supporter learns quickly — you ride all the waves with a smile and pessimism so you’re not let down at the end of the day. Carn Sainters, but really, you bloody idiots.
