About Me
Born on the 29th of December, 1987 in Perth, Western Australia, I spent the first five years of my life frolicking through my home town. From a very young age I was always interested in computers. So much so, that my father decided to enter a children’s computer education business to nurture my special skills. He became the Australian franchisor for the American company Futurekids. Then at six I moved to Melbourne with my family and I’ve been here ever since (aside from my year away).
My interest in all things technological continues to this day. My blog is testimony to that. I started coding from a young age, getting particularly interested in Visual Basic and web languages such as HTML and JavaScript. From there I went into designing low-key (and quite pathetic!) websites for friends, family and pretty much anyone who would take me. I earned some good money in my time, too.
Apart from websites and coding, I also developed an interest in broadband technology. To that end I am now quite involved with Whirlpool, the Australian broadband news website and consumer advocate. I am a reporter on its news section and an active contributor on its forums.
Gadgets also occupy a lot of my time. Lucky for me I have a good ability to save money — unlike my sister and many of my cousins — which means that most money I get is saved, and then spent in one lump sum on the latest gadget. I’ve bought PDAs, cameras, phones, laptops, everything. Having the latest, coolest gadget is awesome!
Sport, along with computers and technology, is my main hobby. The St Kilda Football Club occupies my time during the winter; I attend most games in Melbourne with my father and grandfather. During the summer, the cricket is my primary focus. Going to the Boxing Day Test every year at the MCG with my dad and family-friends is an event that I look forward to every year. The Australian Open tennis also tends to take up my time during January.
Unfortunately, I have quite severe Crohn’s Disease, a chronic inflammatory disease that mostly affects my small bowel. It means that I get often debilitating abdominal cramps, and need to monitor my health very closely. I have also spent a lot of time in the Royal Children’s Hospital, but because of my age will soon have to change specialists and hospitals.
In 2004 I graduated with my Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) from Bialik College. I was then accepted into the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Commerce double degree at Deakin University.
I also enjoy travelling the world. I spent a year in Israel on a program called Shnat with Habonim Dror, during which I spent ten months in Israel studying, teaching English to primary school children, working on co-existence projects between Arab-Israelis and Jewish Americans, teaching Hebrew to Bedouin children, and having an absolute ball with twenty-two other amazing people and two great madrichim. I have also travelled through Switzerland (Geneva and Zurich), Germany (Munich, Dresden and Berlin) and Prague. Bangkok and Singapore airports were also quite nice. I’m hoping to travel again soon, probably next time through America, with a side trip back to Israel.
While I was in Israel I also developed a thought tangent — specifically down the trail of Socialism, Marxism, social action, and more recently social democracy. The underlying ideals of overall equality for all independent of thought, monetary and socio-economic background, location, gender, and family history is not as important as it should be in today’s society. Since returning from Israel I have decided to make it a goal of mine to pursue this for all societies that I come across, most notably Australia and Israel.
I also have two beautiful Shetland Sheepdogs, named Chivas and Regal who I love very, very much.
